If I could describe Emmi and Sergiy’s Key West wedding with one phrase it would – the absolute perfect destination wedding. Not only did they have celebrations at my two favorite Key West venues – Casa Marina Resort and The Hemingway Home, but their wedding was the epitome of classic beauty and elegance.
With friends and family coming in from all of the world, the couple decided to have a beachfront ceremony at Casa Marina and then proceed to the Hemingway House for the reception, where their guests could enjoy the historic house and serenity of the property’s garden.
It started with a serene getting ready at the beautiful and spacious suites at Casa Marina. Its not secret that the getting ready images are among my favorite of the day. I love the emotion and the laughter and even the tears.
And let’s talk about the first look. Wow! Casa Marina’s historic backdrop was the perfect place for a first look for this thoroughly classic couple.
Not a single moment of this first look was posed. 100% observed. It was magic.
Emmi couldn’t decide between the Casa Marina or the Hemingway House as her venue so she opted for both! The beachfront ceremony was held just before sunset so we could fully utilize the most dynamic light of the day.
And then on to the Hemingway House for another classic Key West wedding reception among the ghosts of Hemingway lore.
I reached out to Emma to see if she could share some of her experiences and advice on planning a beach destination wedding.
1 – Use the time before your wedding to plan out the little details and don’t wait until the last minute to think about these. She is so correct – the little details take up a lot more time than you may realize, even if you are having a simple wedding.
2 – Some of my favorite advice from Emma was to trust your gut and do what is right for you and your fiancé. I love how she said that planned her wedding from her feelings and by trusting her instinct. And it turned out to be the wedding of her dreams!
3 – From a practicality standpoint, budget your wedding in accordance with those things that will be most meaningful to you and your fiancé in the long term. That will vary from person-to-person but I think asking yourself what aspects of your wedding are most important to you is a great way to work through a budget.
4 – I really love Emmi’s final piece of advice – Ask your vendors! Trust your vendors! Ask them for help, for their opinion, etc. It is why we are here and what we do for a living! After 16 years of photographing weddings, there are very few situations or experiences that I have not had. I may not have all of the answers but I will try and at least have an idea of where to look for the answer.
One of Emmi’s favorite moments was having dinner with her new husband while watching her guests enjoy their experience. Having a few peaceful moments for the two of you during the wedding is so important. These are great opportunities to just stop, connect with each other and really appreciate the day. It is so true that weddings go by very fast.
